The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:2) Amplified Bible
“Every sin is an attempt to fly from emptiness….”
Sin – anything not of faith
Attempt – to undertake
Fly from – void, delusive, vain
When I read this quote and thought about what it might mean, I made a personal comparison with Genesis 1:2. When I choose to sin (depending on myself to make life work instead of depending on Jesus), I am attempting to escape pain, fear or rejection by flying from that emptiness to something or someone that will “fix it”. I want it or them to take away the pain, the fear, the loneliness, and the emptiness. Even in these times when I am an analogy of Genesis 1:2, I am making the choice to live in the land of the faithless being without form and an empty waste and allowing darkness to hide the Light. Even then the Spirit of God is moving (hovering, brooding) over my waters. He knows what is going on. He is capable of completely changing the empty waste and darkness. But He is waiting on the right time, just as He was in Genesis. That moment when I call out His name in faith, the change begins. He has been waiting to fill my emptiness with what He knows is best for me…His transforming love! After all, I am His daughter! And He never gives up on me!
Father, I am so frail and can go to empty so fast. Thank You for Your forgiveness and love. Thank you for Your holy movement in my attempts to make life work without You. Thank You for the redeeming work You are continually doing in my life, in spite of me. I love you and desperately need You. Your daughter, Decima
