Statement of Beliefs
At Crossway we believe:
- Verbal inspiration of the Bible
We believe the Holy Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, to be verbally inspired of God in the original manuscripts; infallible, inerrant and God-breathed, the final source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 | 2 Peter 1:20-21 | Psalm 119:160 | John 17:17 | 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 - The Trinity
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Matthew 3:16-17 | Mark 1:10-11 | Luke 3:21-22 | 1 Peter 1:2 - The Lord Jesus Christ
We believe that God the Son, who has always existed, became a man (without diminishing His deity) by virgin birth through Mary. He lived a sinless human life and died on a literal Roman cross thus satisfying God concerning the sins of all humanity.
John 1:1 | Colossians 1:15-17 | Romans 5:8 | 1 John 2:2
We further believe in the literal, physical resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. He was then ascended and exalted to the right hand of God as the Great High Priest of all believers. Christ will one day return as King and Lord to execute judgment on the earth.
1 Corinthians 15:1-8 | Ephesians 1:20 | Hebrews 2:17 | Acts 1:9-11 | Revelation 19:11-16 - The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, equal with the Father and Son as God. He convicts the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration and seals the righteous unto the day of redemption. He provides the Christian with power for daily life, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in right behavior.
Genesis 1:2 | Acts 5:1-4 | John 16:5-11 | Titus 3:5 | Ephesians 1:13 | John 14:16-17, 26 - Mankind
We believe mankind was created in the image and likeness of God, but in Adam’s sin the human race fell and became alienated from God. Man is born spiritually dead, separated from God, and is alone utterly unable to remedy his lost condition.
Genesis 1:27 | Genesis 3:1-6 | Romans 5:12 | Romans 3:23 | Ephesians 2:1-3 | Isaiah 59:2 - Salvation
We believe salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (apart from any works by man) whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of sins. Upon receiving salvation, the person receives eternal life, becomes a partaker of Christ’s life and is saved. He becomes a new creation and now has a new identity as a child of God.
Ephesians 2:8-9 | Ephesians 1:7 | 1 John 5:12-13 | 2 Corinthians 5:17 | Romans 8:16 - Eternal Security
We believe that all who are in Christ will never lose this relationship.
John 10:27-29 | Romans 8:35-39 | Philippians 1:6 - Satan and Demons
We believe that Satan is a fallen angel who is aided by a host of evil spirit beings called demons. Their design is to destroy believers, their homes and their churches, and to blind the lost to the gospel. Every believer is subject to their attack but may be made victorious through Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 14:12 | Matthew 8:16 | Ephesians 6:10-18 | 2 Corinthians 4:4 - Sanctification
Each believer partaking of eternal life (Christ’s life) has been united with Christ and thus spiritually crucified, buried, raised and enthroned together with Him. The old man (in Adam) died at the cross. The results of co-crucifixion must become an experiential reality to each believer as he chooses to walk by the Spirit and not after the flesh. This is true freedom and victorious living. Sanctification, then, is Christ living His life out through the believer to love God and others. This is not teaching passivity, sinless perfection or the deification of man. As the believer trusts Christ to live through him/her, he/she will be able to consistently (not perfectly) line up his lifestyle with the truth of God’s Word.
Romans 6:1-6 | 1 John 5:12-13 | Romans 8:1-8 | Galatians 2:20 - Marriage and Sexuality
We believe that God has established marriage as an exclusive relationship between one man and one woman. We believe that God created the human race male and female. We believe that all conduct with the intent to adopt a gender other than one's birth gender and all intimate sexual activity outside the marriage relationship, whether heterosexual, homosexual, or otherwise, is sin.
Genesis 2:24-25 | Exodus 20:14, 17, 22:19 | Leviticus 18:22-23, 20:13, 15-16 | Matthew 19:4-6, 9 | Romans 1:18-31 | I Corinthians 6:9-10, 15-20 | I Timothy 1:8-11 | Jude 7 | Genesis 1:27 | Deuteronomy 22:5
